How Things Are Looking These Days

How Things Are Looking These Days

Even though things have been slow on the blog, things have been churning in the background. One of the biggest lessons I learned during the pandemic was around themes of REST. Or mainly that If I did not find rest for my body, that my body was keeping the score and would force the rest on me!

I’ve been loving 30. I remember it being my favorite as a kid when I imagined getting older. Not sure why. I am just so pleased to be on the path towards aging, healing trauma, being human, stepping into my power, just existing, grieving, laughing, saying yes more, saying no more, feeling all my emotions, dreaming big!

My garden is popping off! I must admit i’m a little impatient. After positively COOKING over 200 of my seedlings in our very weird and hot spring (we had a day where the temp was 90 during the day and then dropped to below freezing that night) , I direct seeded a lot, so my garden is a late bloomer . Relatable, still beautiful and valid. I’m just a little bit nostalgic for garden harvests of yore, but it’s fine. I added 8 beds last year total with the intention of growing buckets of food from scratch. Alas, my dream has been drastically minimized- but its ok! ALSO if y’all want a review of my greenhouse please comment below.

Part of the reason why my dreams were minimized was this! My blog, my instagram, my life. At the beginning of 2020, after sporadically instagramming here and there, gaining an audience of 4k humans and surely some bots, and developing my patreon page for said audience… as a result of the George Floyd murder (may he rest in power) and the Amplify Black Voices movement, My name was shared around the internet with a lot of other Black content creators and herbalists specifically. This foisted me from 4k to 19k almost overnight and made instagram a potential source of income for me. Amazing? Yes, Unexpected? Yes. Easy? No. I already have a love/hate relationship with social media, and as an introverted-leaning-ambivert, that much attention is/was scary. I am so grateful though, outside of the racism and weirdness, it has been life changing, life affirming , and fun most times.

I also spent most of 2020 and 2021 solo parenting. Single parents are top tier DEITIES in my book. I feel it requires olympian strength, especially from a gentle/respectful/attachment parenting lens. My community has been a god-send. If you know of a single parent in your life, for pete’s sake do something nice for them right now. I mean it- log off, send them money, buy them a gift, run an errand for them. Do something. The health of our communities thrive when we are all doing well.

Other things have happened as well- cool gigs, deaths, grief, family nonsense, root canals, I started dreaming that I out of the blue love Karaoke now, and lots of other weird things.

Fun things on the horizon:

I’m writing more! I have poems i’m so excited to put out into the world and I’m exploring simple ways to share this writing in a way that is sustainable and aligns with me.

I’m teaching locally again!

I went camping on this continent

I can’t stop watching House clips on youtube as I work

I have a new camera! I’m working on improving my skills, but so far its main job is to take pictures of pollen drunk bees in my garden.

I have a 5 year old! What!

I am rediscovering my minimalist roots and slowly going through certain corners of my home.
